Ingredients
- 2 brown rice tortillas (Food For Life®), or tortillas, or flat bread pieces
- 2 teaspoons soy-free vegan buttery spread (Earth Balance®), or coconut butter, or butter of choice
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened applesauce
- 2 tablespoons light brown sugar, or date sugar, or agave nectar, or honey, or Grade B Maple syrup
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 pinch ground nutmeg
Method
- Place baking rack in first position; preheat oven broiler; line rimmed baking sheet with aluminum foil.
- Place tortillas side by side on baking sheet (do not overlap).
- Divide buttery spread evenly between tortillas; spread thin.
- In small bowl, combine applesauce, light brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg; spread evenly over tortillas.
- Place sheet under preheated broiler; broil until sugar has melted and is golden brown, 1 – 2 minutes.
- Keep watch to take care that the tortillas do not burn – they will puff up while cooking, and will flatten when cooled.
- Cool slightly; cut each tortilla into 6 wedges, using a pizza cutter or large chef’s knife.
Serve immediately, or store in airtight container at room temperature up to 2 days. Servings: 12 wedges. Preheat: Broiler. Prep Time: 5 minutes. Cooking Time: 1 – 2 minutes.
Variation
Fruit crisps: omit applesauce, ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg; use 2 teaspoons jelly or preserves of choice for step 5.
