After nearly two decades of helping families cook around food allergies, we've given AllergenFreeCooking.com a fresh look, easier navigation, faster recipe browsing, and a cleaner space for the blog posts, allergen guides, and family-tested recipes you've come to rely on. Everything you loved is still here; it's just easier to find.
A Kitchen Built on Real Family Experience
Allergen Free Cooking was founded in 2007 by Michelle HW Hill, a mother, home cook, and food safety advocate based in Saint Paul, Minnesota. What started as one family's effort to eliminate egg, dairy, wheat, soy, beef, and artificial dyes from their meals has grown, over more than 20 years, into a trusted resource for families navigating allergens.
Every recipe on this site has been developed and tested in Michelle's own kitchen — created first to feed her family safely, and then shared so yours can enjoy them too. From bagels and Danish pastry to Kung Pau Stirfry and cheesy crackers her son Matthew once declared "better than pizza," these are real recipes for real families.
Expertise You Can Trust
Michelle is a Culinary Allergen Specialist, Certified Professional–Food Safety (CP-FS), CFPM, and is HACCP-Certified. Beyond this site, she serves as:
- Consumer Representative on the Executive Board of the Conference for Food Protection (CFP) (2023–2029)
- Current Chair of the CFP Allergen Committee (2025–2027)
- Vice Chair of the NEHA Food Safety Program Committee
- AGS Expert Advisory Council Member, Specializing in Food Safety, Food Code, Allergen Control
- Founder of 9allergens.com and MajorFoodAllergens.com
The combination — a parent who has cooked through it and a credentialed professional who shapes national food safety policy — is what makes the guidance here different. When you read a recipe or an allergen post on this site, it's been thought through from both sides of the plate.
